3 Reasons to Clean Your Carpets In The Winter

Posted by on 6:50 pm in Carpet Cleaning, Rug Cleaning | 0 comments

Winter Time Is The Right Time:  3 Reasons to Clean Your Carpets In The Winter Many people think Winter is a horrible time to get your carpets cleaned.  But it is probably one of the best times to do so!  They will tell you the drying times are longer, that the carpets will get dirtier faster, and that you should wait for spring. Wrong!  Let’s take a look at these common myths. 1.    It takes longer for carpets to dry in the winter!  This is simply not true.  In fact, with a good heating system in place, they will probably dry faster with the added heat and ventilation along with lower humidity! 2.    They’ll get dirty more quickly!  Once again, wrong! Start by training yourself to remove your shoes.  Build this good habit.  By doing so, you will not only lessen the amount of dirt you expose your carpet to, but also not track in harmful chemicals or allergens either. 3.    You should wait for spring!  With homes being virtually sealed up for the winter, our air quality in our homes is reduced making winter a perfect time to clean our carpets!  In fact, the EPA says:  “Every time carpets and fabrics are emptied of their pollutant build-up through professional cleaning methods, there is a health benefit.” So don’t wait!  Call us and get your carpet cleaning scheduled.  There is no better...

Bringing the Indoors Out : Outdoor Carpet and Rugs

Usually when you are talking about interior design for your home its easy to think of bringing the natural world inside for inspiration.  But every once in a while you have to bring the inside out.  The idea of outdoor rugs and carpet seems to instantly invoke negative ideas like mold, constant maintenance or who can forget the disaster we called “AstroTurf”?  However like most poor design choices of the past, scientists, artists and carpet manufacturers have devolved synthetic fibers for outdoor carpets that even rival their interior counterparts. To withstand the elements outdoor carpet and rug fibers, along with today’s grass carpets must be made with synthetic materials.  Regular interior carpet fibers and the bottom pad simply are not able to handle the temperature fluctuations, moisture and heat from outdoors.  That is why most outdoor carpet fibers are made from olefin (polypropylene), the same material as plastic rope and sandbags.  This material is weather resistant and extremely durable.  Most minor spills and stains can be washed off with a rag or garden hose depending on the padding underneath.  In all cases for major cleaning or stains it is wise to consult a professional like Spiess Carpet Cleaning. Having carpet or a rug outside creates a more inviting and comfortable living space for you to enjoy outside of your home.  With modern technology, there is really no longer a need to worry about outdoor carpets getting moldy or caked with mud and dirt.  Maintaining them has never been easier and Spiess is there to help you along the way with any carpet cleaning needs you...

Choosing the Right Carpet for Your Home

Choosing the Right Carpet for Your Home

When choosing the right carpet for your home Spiess Carpet Cleaners recommends using the “3 BE RULE” : Be Balanced, Be Informed and Be Conscious. 1. Be Balanced When making a balanced decision about your carpet choice, we are referring to style.  Your carpet should compliment the period and style of your home.  This does not necessarily mean that it should match.  Rather the carpet should balance with the current style of your home.  To find a carpet that compliments and balances with your current style, you can do research yourself online or at a library or you can also consult with a professional designer.  Some key words to be aware of if you are doing your own research are color, texture, line, pattern, fabric and size.  Have fun and be creative! 2.  Be Informed Making an informed decision before purchasing carpet for your home can potentially save you from regret and stress later.  With so many resources available today, most at no cost, it has never been easier to make the right decision when choosing your carpet.  Being informed means thinking about the functionality of the carpet and the wisest way to get the most quality for the investment.  For instance, a low traffic carpet that will perhaps go in a basement craft room would not need to be as high quality and expensive as the carpet in the living room.  Another feature to be aware of is technology in your carpet.  A stain resistant carpet may be more expensive than a carpet without that feature, however it may be worth the investment for the kid’s bedrooms. 3.  Be Conscious As our planet grows more global, we all must do our part to ensure the products we purchase were not produced at the expense of the environment or the quality of life of any people.  There are a substantial amount of “green” carpets available that are guaranteed to not only feel great under your feet, but also make you feel great inside too.  There are many carpets made from eco-friendly fibers such as wool, a corn-sugar based polymer and we even found a soft/ plush carpet made of recycled bottles nicknamed “Pop Bottle Carpet”. By applying the “3 BE RULE” choosing the perfect carpet for your home will be a breeze.  When its time to get that carpet looking brand new again be sure to call Spiess Carpet Cleaning or use our “Text a Quote” feature on your cell phone at...

Pre & Post Cleaning Tips

Pre & Post Cleaning Tips

Before Our Visit At Spiess Carpet Cleaning, we want to make your carpet cleaning experience as enjoyable as possible. We do ask that you move items such as small end tables, stools, plants, etc prior to your carpet cleaning. We are happy to carefully move your furniture for you at no extra charge. We will also be happy to put your furniture back for you before we leave after your carpet cleaning service. If you are a pet owner, it would be greatly appreciated if you vacuum before we arrive. After We Leave If there are some items that were left off the carpet, make sure the carpet is dry before placing any metal or wood-based pieces back after the carpet cleaning. The carpet usually dries in six to eight hours after the cleaning. If we have placed plastic squares under the legs of furniture, allow one or two days before removing these squares. In between carpet cleanings, the main thing you can do is vacuum. With regular steam cleaning and vacuuming, you can extend the life of your carpet by years. My recommendation on the frequency of carpet cleaning depends on several variables: if you have children or pets, heavy traffic patterns, etc. Usually a carpet cleaning once every eight to twelve months can keep your carpet looking beautiful for years to...

Removing Mud from Carpet

Removing Mud from Carpet

Spring has arrived and it brings the rainy season. One of the worst things about it is tracking mud inside your home. It never fails either your kids or your pets are going to track mud into the house at least once during the rainy season, but most likely it will happen more than once. It doesn’t seem too bad when the kids or your pets track mud into the house on your hardwood or tiled floors, but the carpet is another issue. Removing mud stains out of the carpet is not, but the good news is that there are some easy steps you can take to remove mud stains from your carpet without a lot of trouble. 1.  The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that the mud stain is completely dry. Be patient no one wants mud on their carpeting, but it really it will make cleaning it much easier. 2.  Once the stain has dried you can brush off the dried mud by hand or you can get a soft bristle, dry scrub brush. What this is going to do is to loosen up the dried dirt so that you can vacuum it up. A wet-dry/shop vacuum works well because it has more suction power than your ordinary household vacuum. 3.  Use a general spot cleaner available at most grocery stores or you can make the solution of a mild dish washing soap and water. Puts a teaspoon of a mild dish washing soap and a 32 ounce spray bottle and lightly shake. Mist the solution on the spot and block it up with a white towel or a dye free paper towel. Be careful not to rub the spot, as this could spread it and damage the carpet. Allow the area to dry before putting it back to...
